Record breaking market at the yearling session of JRHA Select Sale 2018

The market at the yearling session of JRHA Select Sale, on Monday July 9th at Northern Horse Park, was stronger than everybody expected.
First of many fireworks was seen when Hip#13, colt by King Kamehameha out of Mis Serendipity, who won Graded One Stakes both at North America South America, went through the sales ring. The consignment from Northern Racing was bought for 240,000,000yen, US$2,162,163, by Yoshihisa Ozasa, regular visitor to JRHA Sale in recent years, who runs management consulting company.
"When I visited Northern Farm for inspection, I liked him and he got in my short list" Ozasa said after the purchase. "It is another attraction that he is from beautiful family. Although price is higher than I thought, I did not want someone else to buy him. I want him to become classic winner."
Hip#21, colt by Deep Impact out of King Rose, Champion Three-Year Old filly in New Zealand, was bought by Masahiro Noda of Danox Co.Ltd, who has been big spender at JRHA Sale for years, for 250,000,000yen, US$2,252,253. "He is very nice individual", Masahiro Noda said of the colt he bought, which is the consignment from Northern Racing. "I thought he would be less than US2 million. But today's market is very strong and I was determined to go for more."
Hip#26, colt by Heart's Cry out of Life For Sale. dual G1 winner at Argentine, consigned by Northern Racing, was bought by Riichi Kondo, who has been great supporter of Japanese bloodstock market for more than three decades, for 230,000,000yen, US$2,072,073.
"My trainer, Yasuo Tomomichi, strongly recommends this colt", Riichi Kondo said after the purchase. "Heart's Cry is my favorite stallion and I am happy to add him in my string."
"I think he is typical mile and half horse", Yasuo Tomomichi added. "And he is nice individual and good mover. This is my pick of day".
At the opening session of 2018 JRHA Select Sale, 233 yearlings went through the sales ring and 211 of them were bought for 9,674,500,000yen, US$87,157,658, in total, which is 12.0% more than 12 month ago.
The average price, 45,850,711yen, US$413,070, is 14.7% increase as compared with 2017 and the clearance rate improved from 89.3% in 2017 to 90.6% in 2018. All of the gross sale, average price, and clearance rate are new record at the yearling session of JRHA Sale.
"The gross sale and the clearance rate are both far beyond my expectation", said Katsumi Yoshida of Northern Farm, leading consignor on Monday session. "Nice individuals are sold very well. And I am very happy to see, not only Deep Impact, but also other sires are very popular. It is amazing market."
The foal session of 2018 JRHA Select Sale starts at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday 10th.
