CURREN CHAN(JPN), JRHA graduates, runs for glory in Hong Kong |
Curren Chan, 4-y-o filly by Kurofune out of Spring Ticket, will try to win her second stakes with premier grade at Sha Tin on December 11th.
Curren Chan was bought by Takashi Suzuki, the oculist who is well-known as the expert of surgery to cure glaucoma, at JRHA Foal Sale in 2007 for 25,000,000yen. Suzuki, who is also the expert of horse pedigree, liked the mating of Tony Bin mare and Kurofune, and he remembered Vivaldi, the first foal out of Spring Ticket, was talented, although Vivaldi failed to win any race as he broke his leg during his second start after finished second in good maiden. He was thoroughly happy with his purchase.
Suzuki decided to call the filly as "Curren Chan", when the filly moved to JRA's Ritto Training Center to be trained by Takayuki Yasuda. All horses owned by Suzuki have definite article "Curren" in their name. In fact, "Curren" is the name of Suzuki's daughter and "Chan" is suffix which is added to girl name. Suzuki reserved Curren Chan, horse name, for a horse which he really likes and can expect to be very a good horse. As Suzuki was very impressed with the filly when she was pre-trained at Shadai Farm, he was determined this is the horse which should be called "Curren Chan".
Curren Chan proved to be a better horse than Suzuki expected. She has won four Graded Stakes, including G3/Hanshin Himma Stakes on April 9th 2011 at Hanshin, the first Graded Stakes for Suzuki, and G1/Sprinters' Stakes on October 2nd 2011 at Nakayama, the first stakes with premier grade for the owner.
Curren Chan will run to be the first winner in foreign country for Suzuki on December 11th.
