Market was strong at foal session of JRHA Select Sale, on Tuesday 12th at Northern Horse Park.
It was Nobutaka Tada of Globe Equine again who made successful bid for the sale topper, after the hummer was knocked as he called 250,000,000yen for Hip#336, colt by Neo Universe out of Wind in her Hair. The consignment from Northern Farm is three parts brother to Deep Impact, who is widely recognized as the best horse ever bred in Japan and is now very exciting young sire.
"This colt is for the same partnership which bought yearling out of Air Groove on Monday." said Nobutaka Tada. "He reminds me Deep Impact when he was a foal. In fact, I tried to buy Deep Impact for my client, but could not buy. Hence, I am very happy to acquire him. He is smallish animal, and Deep Impact was small, too. I hope he is as good as Deep Impact."
The under-bidder was Takaya Shimakawa.
161 lots were sold for 4,447,200,000yen in total on Tuesday. The gross sale of foal session is 33.2% increase than the previous year. Average price 27,622,360yen is 11.7% higher than 2010. The buy-back rate is 26.8%, which was 32.2% last year.
358 lots were sold for 9,173,200,000yen in total through the two-days session. The gross sale is 41.2% increase than the previous year. Average price 25,623,463yen is 23.8% higher than 2010. The buy-back rate is 21.0%, which was 25.6% last year.
Asked about the reason why all figures are up significantly, Teruya Yoshida, vice chairman of JRHA, commented at the conclusion of the sale, "I do not know why and I think nobody can explain why the market here was so strong, as the economy in Japan has been slow after March 11th, when Japan was hit by big earthquake and tsunami."
"As my farm received so many inspectors before the sale, I had a little positive feeling. But I did not expect such strong market. We have been working hard to improve the quality of horses we breed, for example we bought a lot of good mares form Europe and America in recent years, and I am very happy if those efforts have resulted in this big fruits".
"I hope this tendency will continue next year and so on."
