From its research into the breeding and development of thoroughbred race
horses through to its sponsorship of Japan's most high-profile thoroughbred
auction, the Japan HorseRacing Association Select Sale, the JRHA has continuously
strived for the promotion and advancement of the the Japanese horse racing
industry since its inception in 1970. The first Select Sale was conducted
by the JRHA in 1998 and set a precedent for increased fairness and transparency
of thoroughbred sales in Japan. In recent years the JRHA Select Sale has
gained worldwide prominence with several horses included in the auction
making wins at high profile races across the globe, including Group 1 races
such as the Dubai Duty Free (Admire Moon owned by Riichi Kondo, 2007) and
the Hong Kong Mile (Hat Trick owned by Carrot Farm, 2005). In an landmark
project, the JRHA is currently compiling a database of visual media relating
to the Japanese horse racing industry. It is hoped that this will provide
a useful historical record which will be continuously updated into the
next generation of breeders and trainers and beyond. I look forward to
seeing the fruits of this project and to the continued increase in prominence
on the world stage of horses bred and developed in Japan.
